5 Things I Learned From My First Past Life Regression Experience

By Marwa Mitchell

Ready to take a trip into your past life experiences? This is a true story of what is possible when we decide it’s time to intimately know our souls.

I first heard of Past Life Regression (PLR) on Oprah in the early 2000s via the very famous PLR expert, Dr. Brian Weiss, author of Many Lives, Many Masters. He had come on to demonstrate the effectiveness of curing chronic issues/phobias by journeying people into a hypnotic state and leading them back into other lives. I believed in reincarnation at the time, but I always looked for things to support that belief as I spiritually searched. I found myself particularly interested in past life regressions and was excited to try it myself one day. In 2011, I attended a spiritually focused conference in Toronto, and Dr. Weiss was a speaker. I was so excited; there was no way I would miss it – but I didn’t know that I’d be experiencing a past life regression that weekend for the first time.

Did you know that you can be hypnotized in a group setting? I had no idea. After explaining his clinical successes and why regression works, Dr. Weiss led us into a meditative state. As a group of close to 100, he slowly took us down into the hypnotic tunnel and stimulated us to use the images in our minds to “see” what was happening. We all sat silently, so we didn’t use the power of our voices to convey the story, but it was clear as day as I sat there watching in my mind’s eye what FELT so real. I had dropped into a scene in the desert, and I was on a horse. Next to me, a train was moving quickly, and my goal was to hop on this train. I could feel my desire to reach the rail to help hoist me up, and I could feel the emotions from the thrill of robbing the train. Damn straight I was a train robber in a past life!

I couldn’t help but wonder why my subconscious/higher-self wanted to show me this particular life. I found the answer was in the relationship I was in at the time. My train robbing partner in crime also happened to be my boyfriend in this current life. Although the relationship was on the road to ending, my subconscious wanted me to understand why I was experiencing it, as it was challenging and tumultuous. This part of me also wanted to confirm that it was time to end the relationship, letting me know I was on the right path.

I questioned the experience over the next few weeks, but the deep emotions I felt at the scene that played out were palatable. They were like memories sitting in my mind now, connected to real feelings--as if they were in this lifetime. Over time, as I integrated the experience, I accepted the information more and more. Now it’s part of my history, and I cherish it as I cherish all of the other lessons I’ve learned on my journey.

I realized a few valuable things from this experience with Dr. Weiss. The first key takeaway is that hypnosis is a potent tool that isn’t just reserved for stage performers and cartoons. It taps directly into the all-knowing self and grabs the most vibrationally aligned information. I also learned how subtle the experience can be, compared to other journeyings I had done within the entheogenic space. I was left with emotions and feelings, yet the story’s context was so out of left field that it took a while to fully integrate.

This first experience has led me to understand that as a professional in the PLR space now, I know that the integration experience can be longer with past life regression than with other subconscious exploration journeys. By the time we accept the story and overcome our mind’s chatter that it was all made up, a month or two may pass by. That’s perfectly normal. As I’ve experienced more regressions, the integration process becomes more accessible and much faster. We gain a deeper sense of trust with the process. We feel the power of the quantum field and higher-self in a non-altered space that adds to our dimensional experience, and it all works together on the path of consciousness too.

Finally, I realized that I would be working within this space in the future, all from this very first journey. I find it humorous that my BA in Psychology was only acquired out of convenience (or so I thought at the time). I was pre-med in college, and my first two years were spent pursuing a biology degree (which happened to be in the same building). Now I know it was all planned by the intelligent and all-knowing higher-self. My psychology degree has provided a great foundation for understanding the neuropsychology behind hypnosis and how it operates in our physical dimension. I am so grateful my soul knew what I needed to learn before my conscious mind was aware.

If you are interested in getting a feel for past life regression, there are several YouTube videos led by Dr. Weiss and the great Dolores Cannon in a group setting. Although shorter than a personal PLR session, group hypnosis is an excellent introduction to getting your conscious mind to familiarize itself with the process.
